KIN.S Living Campus is a project of Social Housing Impresa Sociale S.r.l., a company of the New Generation Hostel group, which since 2012 has launched and managed youth hostels in Italy and Europe: Milan, Rome, Venice, Como, Prague, and soon Naples and Bucharest. Over seven hundred and fifty beds, more than two hundred thousand young guests hosted every year. Our locations are almost all housed in prestigious buildings belonging to religious institutions or non-profit foundations. The management of university residences is strengthened by the partnership with Humanitate ETS, a Third Sector organisation that works alongside Congregations and Religious Institutes for the management of social works.
KIN.S is an initiative of a social enterprise. That is the first thing we want to say, because it explains everything else. A social enterprise is not a company that does charity on the margins of its profit. It is a company that has chosen a legal form in which profits cannot be distributed to shareholders, either directly or indirectly: they must be reinvested in the activity. It is a company that has the obligation to involve the people who use its services in the decisions concerning the quality of those services. And it is a company that must account publicly, every year, not only for its numbers but for its social impact. This means, in concrete terms, that when you read in this document that our goal is the growth of people and not the yield per square metre, you are not reading a marketing phrase. You are reading the constraint within which this enterprise is built.
Florence is the group's first university residence. The aspiration, said without beating around the bush, is that living here — studying, starting a profession, falling in love, learning to live in a community — is an experience you tell for the rest of your life.
